Battery electric vehicle fleets
The NSW Government supports a transition to battery electric vehicles (BEV) and is working to help fast track the transport sector to net zero emissions by 2050. They are cheaper to run, quieter, more energy efficient and many businesses have already converted fleet vehicles to BEVs.

In Australia, the transport sector accounts for almost 20% of the total emissions. It is the second largest source of emissions.
Fleet buyers are important participants in the new vehicle market in NSW. Fleet vehicles make a large portion of annual new vehicle sales. They often drive more kilometres and have higher expenses for fuel and maintenance. This presents a huge opportunity for fleet operators to reduce their emissions and save money by switching to their fleets to EVs.
Why BEV for business?
Cheaper to run
BEVs are significantly cheaper to run, including fuel savings of up to 70%. For an average car travelling 13,700 km per year, this could amount to a saving of $1000 - $1200 annually.
BEVs are also cheaper to maintain. They have fewer moving parts than a petrol or diesel cars resulting in maintenance savings costs of around 40%.
Great driver experience
A fleet of BEV are quieter, smoother and cleaner. They are also considered by experts and users to have greater technical performance than internal combustion engine cars.
Fleets of BEVs are better for the environment and shows a commitment to sustainable practices.
What support is available?
NSW will boost EV numbers by providing EV fleet incentives for businesses, not-for-profit organisations, hire companies and local councils. The incentives will be offered through a reverse auction process.
