Clean manufacturing precincts
Working together to decarbonise NSW manufacturing precincts

Clean manufacturing precincts
As part of Net Zero Industry and Innovation we are supporting the development of clean manufacturing precincts (CMPs). These CMPs will attract and create new low carbon industries, while helping existing high emitting industries fast track their emissions reduction.
CMPs are formed when businesses and other groups within a regional industrial cluster work together to access clean infrastructure and technology.
Through collaboration, businesses can reduce costs and risks associated with new technology (like hydrogen), while supporting economic growth in a low carbon economy.
Decarbonising NSW’s industrial regions will need companies to increase the use of clean technologies at a faster rate and larger scale. This is one of the ways in which CMPs can help meet the state’s target of net zero emissions by 2050.
Decarbonisation roadmaps
We currently have a competitive funding opportunity open to develop CMP decarbonisation roadmaps for the Hunter and Illawarra regions. These roadmaps will provide a pathway for the region and key industrial stakeholders to accelerate their shift to net zero emissions.
Expressions of interest (EOIs) to develop these roadmaps closed on Tuesday 7 December 2021. Once the EOIs have been assessed, invitations to participate in the request for proposal stage of this opportunity will be forwarded to the successful applicants in 2022.
Stakeholder workshop outcomes
Targeted stakeholder workshops took place from June to August 2021 in the Hunter and Illawarra regions.
The workshops brought together a diverse range of stakeholders to share their challenges, opportunities and ideas for industrial decarbonisation in their regions. Information provided will contribute to the delivery of CMPs.
A summary of the information collected is below.
